The Belles

A group of rebellious older women fight against the invisibility of ageing.

The Belles follows a group of older, northern women who perform raucous street theatre and dance. Why? To overcome social isolation and the feeling of invisibility that comes with being an older woman.

As they enter their fifth year together, the group is starting to form a stronger identity and reputation. Despite personal difficulties, financial problems, and the challenges of ageing, the group must persevere to deliver their next big performance.

With humour, irreverence, and lots of sparkly costumes, the film explores how older women are treated in society and what happens when they refuse to be quiet.
